Road trip!

Although this dress was worn on Friday (August 27th), I haven't had the energy or motivation to write, which is horrible. I'm a writer, and I should at least make time to keep up with this blog. With that said, the dress below was purchased at Target when I was on vacation in Panama City, Florida this past July, and I'm in love with it. I'm wearing a silver necklace with a glass heart-shaped pendant covered in flowers, a yellow glass bracelet, and brown gladiator sandals.

Me trying to not pose awkwardly...

On Thursday night, I randomly decided to head home Friday after my classes to see my parents and my sister, Sarah. I always joke with Sarah that she's my favorite sister (she's my only sister not counting my awesome sister-in-laws), but I especially love the weekends when I know I get to see my favorite sister since we attend colleges so far apart. Sarah and I are a hoot when we're together, and we laugh until it hurts no matter where we are or what we're doing. But I digress...I invited my photographer/amazing friend, Jennifer, to travel with me to my hometown for a couple of days, and she, of course, wanted to meet my cooky family and immediately accepted my invite.

My backyard aka the jungle

I was dying to straighten my hair because I haven't yet for any of my posts on here, and I happily straightened my hair on Friday morning. But the humidity had other plans concerning my hair... By the time I walked into my World Civilization class at 12 pm, my hair had already transformed into one huge, wavy, frizzy mess. I was extremely disappointed, but I was considerably cheered up when my teacher called it quits on trying to work the DVD player and cancelled class at 12:05 pm. My Intro to Lit teacher added to the cheer when he decided to show clips from O Brother, Where Art Thou? instead of lecturing the entire time. Jen and I were totally geared up to leave right after our Intro to Lit class, but we had to wait until I finished music practice with the guys, Brian and Gary, for church. Brian and Gary both play guitar, and Gary and I sing at mass on Sunday nights. The guys make music practice highly entertaining due to absurd singing and guitar playing, and goofing around is a welcomed change of scenery compared to serious school. After practice, Jennifer and I zoomed out of town in my little car blasting incredible music to narrate our childish excitement.

My beast, Apollo

After seventy miles of asphalt and basically nothing but trees and tiny, country towns, Jen and I rolled into Waycross, Georgia, my hometown. My mom and I had talked about eating at Wong's Palace, my all-time favorite Chinese restaurant, but when Jen and I arrived, we patiently waited for my mom and Sarah to join us because we were a bit earlier. Apparently, we'd all gotten confused. I'm not certain who said where or how it was interpreted, but my mom and Sarah were at another restaurant about five minutes away waiting on us...oops. No one's perfect, right? Once we were all together, dinner consisted of catching up on all the general events in our lives and talking about Andi's wedding happening next Saturday. Sarah and I are both itching with excitement about Andi's wedding, and I can't wait to post on Saturday night since I'm definitely wearing a gorgeous dress (insert HUGE grin here). All four of us headed back to the house, and Jen, as always, took amazing pictures of me around the house. Our road trip was an enormous success, and I can hardly help myself from planning another road trip with Jen soon.

A Weekend Full of (but what else?) Dresses!

My weekend was utter chaos! (And I loved it...) Staying busy is usually my favorite hobby, but this weekend was all about having fun and not worrying about the hectic semester ahead. With that said, I wore three dresses this weekend, and I've finally found the time to sit down and write.

Thanks Abby for picking out this outfit!

Although I knew my weekend was jam-packed with plans, I honestly wasn't planning on wearing three dress but just one tops. When Friday night rolled around, I headed to the Newman Center for music practice with Brian at 7 pm with the intention of staying until 8 for the movie night. Abby texted me in the middle of practice and asked if I was game to go to a party at our friend, Brittany's, house. A party sounded awesome after a weekend full of new classes and loads of stress, but I was rocking jeans and a t-shirt, which wouldn't have been so rocking at a party. Abby told me that she would pick me out something to change into after movie night, and I left my look for the night up to fate.

The Freshmen Game!

I bought this dress at Target about a year ago, and I've worn it to a handful of random events. I wore the dress with gold sandals. (Thanks Abby!) I found the chart in my hands on Brittany's fridge, and I ended up asking her about it. Apparently, Brittany and her roommates have a points system for whenever they encounter freshmen on campus. You earn a certain amounts of points for a different encounter such as a freshman asking for directions is worth 12 points. I thought the idea was so brilliant that I made sure to have my picture taken with the game chart immediately.

Brittany, Abby, me, and Taylor at Brittany's apartment

Earlier last week, I'd convinced my mom into driving over to Valdosta on Saturday to have lunch with me and my roommates. I decided that I would wake up super early, tidy up my room and the apartment, straighten my hair, and wear a fabulous dress. Well, sometimes sleep is more important, and freaking out after sleeping way past the alarm is necessary to keep a person on their toes. I did wear a dress and frantically try to shove the mess in my room into hiding. My hair was still wet when my mom parked outside of our apartment, and straightening my hair fell out of the window when I realized I would waste time that could be spent with her. Ironically enough, my mom bought the dress below for me when she visited my brother in Texas this past April. I wore this dress with my favorite black sandals and my super curly hair.

My amazing mom and I in front of the Bleu Cafe

Abby, Katie, my mom, and I left the apartment and headed towards the Bleu Cafe in downtown Valdosta for lunch. I tried to navigate my mom, who was driving, around Valdosta, but I keep forgetting she knows all the roads since she attended VSU (when it was VSC) when she was my age. None of us had ever eaten at the Bleu Cafe, but one of our friends, Taylor A., had mentioned to Abby that the food was awesome. I love trying new restaurants, and after Saturday's lunch, I think I found a new favorite place to eat. I ordered a Greek salad because feta cheese sounded severely appetizing, and the salad was fresh and full of flavor with plenty of feta to satisfy even the worst feta addicts like myself.

Abby, Katie, and I

After lunch, we all piled into my mom's car and hit a couple of consignment shops in Valdosta. Sadly enough, I ended up buying another dress, but I figure I have plenty of time to wear my entire collection. I mean, buying one dress can't hurt, right? I think consignment shops are like a gold mine in a girl's world. If I just glance at the endless racks of clothes, I automatically think I'll never find anything, but if I look hard enough, I can find stylish clothes in good condition for cheaper than what I would normally pay. Searching through rack after rack of clothes is only a small price to pay for a killer deal.

Me in my new room
I love new clothes, so I wore the dress I purchased that afternoon to the "housewarming" party we threw in our apartment on Saturday night. I didn't wear shoes the entire night, but I did wear the dress with green earrings that my cousin, Sarah, made and a multicolored, glass bracelet my aunt gave me for my last birthday. My friend, Jennifer, is once again my super hero since she took the pictures of me in this dress, but I loved even more that she could come see our finished apartment. My roommates and I have been slowly decorating our apartment since Abby and I first moved in at the beginning of August. We were finally able to show off our mad HGTV skills Saturday night, and I've never been more proud to call a place home.

Although I can't mention what really happened at our party, I can divulge that I have slightly crazy friends who know how to act like true college students. I hope we can host another party in the very near future, and I hope our next party is just as spontaneous and hysterical as last night was. With all of that being said in one huge giant breath, I have a pound of reading to do, so I can appear knowledgeable in class tomorrow (or at least try to...).

Apples to Apples

I bought this dress around March or April of 2007 to wear to the graduation at my high school, and I've only worn it once since 2007...(Shame on me, right?) When I picked it out last night, I took into great consideration the miserable heat and humidity outside because walking around in the wrong clothes can be a death wish in southern Georgia. With this dress, I wore a red oriental necklace, a black bead bracelet, and red flats.

It's been two days since my first post, but I'm already itching to post again! I hope my writing doesn't bore my few but loyal followers. Today, I survived through three (not so brutal) classes: Greek & Latin Medicine, History of Civilizations III, and Intro to Literature. Seeing that I'm an English major with a huge prejudice against anything science or math related, I was surprised when I ended up liking my Greek & Latin Medicine course. My teacher is witty, and the class is more like a word memorization game. You have to remember prefixes, suffixes, different vowel combos, etc., and I like the challenge. I mean, I am a word nerd... My history teacher is proving to be a nerd himself. He uses different voices to illustrate people we're learning about, and I spent the entire class period trying to figure out where he moved from to Valdosta (I'm placing my bets on somewhere in New England at the moment). Nothing tops my Intro to Lit class, though. My friend, Jennifer (who is amazing and took the pictures for this post), has the class, too, and the class has ended up being hilarious. Our professor adds his own two cents as he teaches the class, and his southern drawl only increases his comments and storytelling.

After class, I dragged Jennifer with me to the library to print my syllabi for the semester, but after about twenty minutes of captivity, we escaped to Jazzman's, a coffee shop on campus, for smoothies for the treacherous walk to the front of campus. I asked Jennifer to help me with my blog by using her astounding photography skills for my pictures. She said yes! We decided to take the pictures in front of West Hall at the fountain because the beginning of school year is the only time the fountain is ever turned on. We only lasted outside for another fifteen minutes; the humidity tends to make me feel like I'm the Wicked Witch and melting is an issue...

I spent the rest of the afternoon on my bed in our apartment and bumming on the couch with my two roomies, Abby and Katie. As much as we didn't want to leave our cozy spots on the sofa, we drove over to the Newman Center (for Catholics on Campus) for Blaze. Blaze is held every Wednesday, and all of the Newman members get together for bible study, dinner, and usually goofing around. We ate loads of pizza from Little Caesar's (super yum to the rescue!), and ice cream for dessert. Someone mentioned playing Apples to Apples, and the ultimate war of hilarity began. Take a group of fifteen college kids and give them Apples to Apples. I literally laughed away the pizza and the ice cream after an hour of Apples to Apples, and I'm glad to be back at school with people who make me laugh until I nearly lose it completely.

My first post!

I've been racking my brain for months on what I should write a blog on, and I finally realized the answer was hanging in my closet. I've been collecting dresses basically as a hobby since my junior year in high school, but I never seem to find a chance or think to wear any of them except a few usuals. The challenge: wear every dress hanging in my closet by May 20th, 2011 (my 20th birthday). I must record what I do in each dress, and I must take a picture to illustrate each post. Each dress captured my eye in a store, but I want to remember each dress for the memories and moments I have in them instead of how pretty they look in my closet.

I bought the dress below from American Eagle a few years ago, and I've only ever worn it as a swimsuit coverup. Tonight I changed it up and actually wore it as a sundress with white sandals and a white lace headband.

Me in our apartment!

Today was the first day of my second year of college. I feel like I'm getting old! After a day full of classes and chaos, my roommate, Abby, and I headed to our apartment to shower and change to go out and celebrate our friend, Ben's, 23rd birthday. Abby and I were the first to arrive at the restaurant, but I was anxious for Ben and his wife, Emily, to hurry up and get there! Emily and Ben had let it slip that Emily was expecting the night before at church, but since Abby got caught in traffic on her way back from Atlanta, she hadn't heard the news yet. Luckily, Ben and Emily were the next two people to sit down at our table, and Emily instantly spilled the news to Abby, who of course, flipped her lid with excitement! During dinner, everyone gave their congratulations, and Abby began planning "Team Baby Davis" shirts for us to wear when the baby is born. Katie, my other roomie, Abby, and I volunteered to babysit as much as possible and help paint the baby's room. After a hilarious dinner with Ben, Emily, Abby, Katie, Pete, Brian, Jeff, and Gary, we drove over the Ben and Emily's to cut cake and hangout. After a long day, Katie, Abby, and I headed back to our apartment to crash on our sofa. I honestly think that tonight was the best way to start out a new school year, and I'm ready for all the challenges that school will bring.
